With it recently being Men’s World Mental Health Month it’s the perfect opportunity to talk about the emotional benefits of male skin care and how a self-care routine can enhance both physical and mental wellbeing. People often underestimate just how much of a direct impact your physical wellbeing has on your emotional wellbeing and mental health. The two often go hand in hand!
Testosterone drives oil production, so men often have significantly oilier and thicker skin, and a better natural hydration. They also have larger oil making glands, called sebaceous glands. The result is that they have more collagen and more ellastine!
Skincare is often overcomplicated, but it doesn’t have to be to achieve visible results. Being consistent and using high quality ingredients to treat any skin concerns are the two key factors in achieving healthy, bright skin.
Simple Skincare Routine for Men
- Cleanse
Whenever you begin your skincare regime, whether it be in the morning or before bed, a priority is to start with a cleanser which can clear away any excess oil, sweat, dirt or grime which has built up. - Exfoliate
A build up of dead skin cells on the surface of your skin can leave the skin feeling rough, dry and dull. By incorporating exfoliating into your routine twice a week, you will brighten and smoothen your skin. In addition, this will allow products to penetrate and hydrate the skin properly, so that you get the full effect of the rest of you routine. - Moisturise
Our third and final step; moisturiser. This step nourishes the skin and traps moisture to keep your skin looking and feeling healthy. An added benefit of this step is that by using a moisturiser with SPF in it during the day, you can shield your skin from UV rays and prevent damage, without the need for an additional step in your routine.
