VITAMIN A – is our hero skin ingredient at myskincare.ie this month

Here is some information to make you more aware of Vitamin A and its amazing benefits. Retinol which is the more technical name is the tagline in skincare at the moment !!!

Back in the 80’s initially, Vitamin A was used to treat acne. It then progressed onto being used as an anti-ageing ingredient as a result of it being so effective.

Vitamin A in skin products works by normalising skin functions and correction of skin conditions. It is a very result driven exciting ingredient to add to your skin regime. It was conclusively proven in 1996 that Vitamin A as a topical skin ingredient was capable of reprogramming cellular function – WOW! This is the reason why we ALL should be using it – not only to help us age more gracefully and have clear skin, but more importantly so our skin is healthier as we age.

What does it do in the skin?

Vitamin A thickens and stimulates the dermis – where your collagen, elastin and blood vessels are. It reduces wrinkles and increases blood flow to the surface of the skin. Vitamin A slows the normal ageing breakdown of your collagen and elastin.

Vitamin A works by –

  • Normalising the blood flow therefore taking fresh nutrients and oxygen to the cells.
  • It Helps to reduce the symptoms of rosacea.
  • Increases the rate of wound healing such as acne scarring.
  • Exfoliates skin and speeds up cell turnover which in turn makes it feel and look smooth and much more even-toned.
  • Repairs the cellular structure of the epidermis , optimising your UV protection.
  • Decreases clustering of melanin granules which will reduce brown spots or pigmentation.
  • Decreases sebum production and thus treats acne brilliantly.
  • Promotes a healthy cellular membrane which improves hydration levels in your skin.
  • Helps in the eradication of precancerous skin lesions.
  • Dramatically improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles , blemishes and skin texture while evening skin tone.

Retinol Creams and Serums

Retinol creams and serums can take about 3-6 months to show visible results, with the best results showing after 12 months.

Always apply a broad-spectrum UVA & UVB sunscreen rated at least an SPF 30 or greater. If you aren’t diligent about sun protection – even the most effective anti-ageing ingredients won’t be able to deliver the results you want. Unprotected sun exposure is simply bad for skin. Daily use of sunscreen as directed, along with other sun protection measures, decreases the risk of skin cancer and early skin ageing.

Here at myskincare.ie we stock a wide range of products containing Vitamin A. Our top favourites are our AlumierMD retinol serums. We have three levels – We would start our clients on a 0.25% retinol, then 0.50% and lastly put our clients on 1%. This is the highest grade we would sell at our clinic.

The retinol is encapsulated so it is a slow release  of pure retinol which is drip fed to the skin which eliminates any retinoid reactions such as warmth, stinging , tingling or redness. This cutting-edge microencapsulated retinol allows for gradual timed release and increased comfort while you sleep. Our serums retail from 88e up to 95e and our readily available at the myskincare.ie shop.

Anyone that wants a game changer when it comes to their skincare regime and that holy grail anti-age effect must be on Vitamin A. Pop in for a skin consultation today – we are here to help you.
